THE DREAM WEDDING DAY
This wedding was so special, I am genuinely obsessed with how Kayla and Ronen's day turned out. It was my first time shooting a micro wedding, just about four hours, a small group of the people who matter the most and my first time photographing a Tiny Box Woods wedding here in Austin. From the very first detail shot to the last warm, candlelit frame at dinner, I kept thinking the same thing: this is exactly what a wedding is supposed to feel like. Genuinely a dream. As an Austin wedding photographer, this is the kind of intimate day I live for!
A couple who just fits
Both athletes, Kayla and Ronen balance each other in the best way. Kayla has this calm & confident energy, and Ronen is pure sunshine. You could feel how well they match, and so could everyone in the room. More than one toast circled back to the same idea: these two were absolutely made to be a team.
What made the day even more meaningful is that it almost wasn't a wedding at all. It started as a celebration and grew into the real thing, and Kayla and Ronen trusted me to step in and document it for them. I will never take that kind of trust lightly, and I'm so grateful they let me be there for it!
The details (and that bouquet!)
The color palette was anything but typical in the best way possible. Deep magenta and burgundy blooms, crisp whites, and sage green for the wedding party. It gave the whole day this candid, joyful, and super unique feeling. All of the florals were done in-house by the team at Tiny Box Woods, which I didn't realize they offered until this wedding when I was speaking to a staff member, and now I'm truly a fan for life.
Kayla's bouquet was one of my favorites I've ever photographed. It was built around a king protea (South Africa's national flower), which felt like such a quiet, beautiful nod to Ronen's parents, who flew in all the way from South Africa to be there. Little touches like that are what I live for! It was the perfect choice, striking and bold but still holding a bridal softness.
And the cake! Ronen's mom made them a custom cake by hand, topped with the most gorgeous flowers. There's something about a family-made cake at a wedding that gets me every time. I always adore when the family has a hand in the wedding prep; it adds an unmatched layer of sweetness.
The dress code was garden party, and everyone delivered to the max! florals everywhere, soft and springy, even though it was hot. It made for some of the prettiest candids of the whole day.
A ceremony full of love
The ceremony was intimate and colorful, set outside in the late-day sunlight. Ronen's father officiated, and watching a parent officiate their own child's wedding is something I'll never get tired of witnessing. Marius was absolutely lovely and made the ceremony so special to witness, even from my outside perspective. The most moving moment for me was when the whole group prayed over Kayla, Ronen, and their marriage, Marius led the prayer, hands were raised all around them, and you could feel how held and loved this couple is; I seriously mean it when I say the energy was palpable. I feel honored every time I get to capture a moment that tender.
photos that feel like you were there
Afterward, we slipped into family and couple portraits, and this group made my job SO easy. Everyone was warm, outgoing, and so game for any ideas I threw their way! The most supportive parents, the sweetest flower girl, and a maid of honor (the wonderful Chandler) who never left Kayla's side and was helping out the entire time- a dream bridesmaid. No matter what, she was there, a true friend to Kayla and Ronen. Kayla and Chandler's photos together are pure joy, one of my personal favorite highlights! These girls were so sweet.
When the light went golden, Kayla, Ronen, and I found a quiet corner of the garden and the staircase, and those frames might be my favorites of the whole gallery.
An outdoor reception full of poetry
After portraits, we headed back to the reception. Kayla and Ronen brought in a local Austin poetry society to write custom poems throughout the celebration, one-of-a-kind verses created on the spot for the couple and their guests to keep. This is my favorite detail to a reception so far, and such a great keepsake, and I'd never seen a detail quite like it: thoughtful, personal, and so completely in keeping with who these two are.
Between the garden-party florals, the lively conversation, and poems being written in real time about any subject, the whole portion felt unhurried and full of total joy, exactly the kind of moment I'll be telling other couples about for a long time.
Inside for dinner & speeches
As the light faded, everyone moved indoors for dinner, and the room was something special: several long tables, candles down the center, and an incredible warm light glowing on everyone's faces. Once everyone was seated, dinner was served, and the toasts began. There were several speeches from family and close friends, equal parts funny and tender, and you could feel the whole room leaning in for each one. It was such a wonderful way to learn about this couple, from those who love them the most. The food was fantastic, and the cake cutting was so fun, as well as cookies and ice cream following shortly after! The perfect ending to a genuinely perfect wedding day.
Final thoughts
A huge thank you to event coordinator Riley and the entire Tiny Box Woods staff, who were kind and helpful from start to finish. I also got to bring my assistant along for the day, and it was such a great experience getting to share a wedding this beautiful with him.
